Hunters head sponsors again

Organisers of this May’s Knowle Fun Run are delighted that Hunters Estate Agents are continuing their main sponsorship for the 17th year in succession.

Once again the Lions have been busy seeking sponsors to sign up and advertisers for the programme for this year’s event.

‘We are delighted that so many local businesses (and some national ones too) have continued their support again,’ says organiser Adrian Harris. ‘The costs of staging the Run escalate every year and with the economic cloud hanging over us all we are really pleased we can confirm they have all been covered by generous donors. That means every pound of entry fees and sponsorship raised by the Runners will be shared by our charities – Alzheimer’s Society, Crossroads Care, Dorridge & Knowle Scouts & other local casues.’

Solihull lay claim to Secondary trophy

Some familiar names have entered early as the first Secondary team. Known by the simple name of ’Solihull’ we are left to guess as to whether they run for Solihull & Small Heath Athletics Club, go to Solihull school or just live there. Well done lads for getting your team together early. Let’s hope that there will be lots of competition for you, especially from the Secondary Girls

London Team throw down the gaunlet

The first team to enter for this year’s Fun Run are the Grange Park Runners from Enfield in North London. The family team of 2 veterans and 2 adults, 2 men & 2 women must be in with a chance. Like so many KFR runners team leader Neil Johnson tells us he has completed the course 8 or 9 times, but its the first time his family have ever competed in our Fun Run, having only recently taken up running – around Grange Park no doubt

Crossroads Care (Birmingham & Solihull)
Dorridge & Knowle Scouts

with 30% being retained for locally determined causes, as in recent years.

Another successful year

Knowle and Dorridge Lions celebrated another year of record achievements on Thursday 22nd September, when the club held its annual presentation evening sponsored by the Window Centre at the Greswolde Hotel in Knowle

‘Once again increased numbers of walkers, runners and cyclists have helped us raise over £65,000 for charity over the past 12 months’ said Past President Adrian Harris ‘This year our Festive Walk attracted more than 750 people to walk in the snow at Baddesley Clinton House between Christmas and New Year who raised £5,000 between them. Our big fund raiser, the Knowle Fun Run, again netted over £38,000 with much appreciated support from sponsors and advertisers alike. Our other good fund raiser is our Solihull Bikeathon from Packwood House which cleared over £17,500 for the first time for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, with 550 cyclists enjoying a sunny day out last July.’

Adrian thanked all the sponsors saying, ‘It’s great for our club of 28 volunteers to celebrate such success again, but without help from companies like yourselves our events would never realise so much for charity. We sincerely hope that we can continue this level of fundraising with the help of all our generous sponsors again next year.’

On the evening the Lions presented cheques totalling almost £30,000 to their nominated charities for 2010-11 – Warwickshire & Northants Air Ambulance, Stroke Association, Dorridge & Knowle Scouts, and the Lions illustrated some of the donations they had made with the funds held for local causes, ensuring once again that every pound raised had been handed over to one worthy cause or another

We apologise but some runners are finding that some HSBC counter staff are unaware of their banks agreement with CAF and are refusing to accept payment without a CAF paying in slip. If you find this to be the case please email us your name, address and the branch which has refused you, and we shall post a paying in slip to you.

Your Fun Run photos – Brueton parkrun

We at Solihull’s Brueton parkrun are proud to have been a ‘get fit to run’ partner of the 2011 Knowle Fun Run. Fun runners from far and wide have been training with us for this year’s event. Our own 9 teams of runners had a great day and all were very impressed with the kind hospitality we received. Thank you to the organisers for being so welcoming!

We hope to be back again next year, with more teams! In the meantime, if anyone who ran this year’s Knowle Fun Run has got the running bug, or is planning to run at next year’s KFR, then how about joining us on our free, weekly, timed 5km event that takes place every Saturday morning.
