Scouts challenge Juniors & Secondary teams

Dorridge Scout group are challenging all-comers for the Junior and Secondary trophies at next month’s 5 mile Knowle Fun Run.

With over three quarters of the places taken for this year’s event on Sunday 16th May, the Lions have challenged schools and clubs across the Borough to enter teams of 4 children for the Lions Junior & Hunters Secondary team trophies.

Assistant scout leader Jason Wilkes encourages his team: Ali, Ed, Will & Ruth

‘For the first time last year we were surprised to find we could not award either trophy as we did not have a full team of 4 runners complete the 5 miles. Whilst we had over 80 teams enter unfortunately none of the Junior or Secondary teams had a full team finish, so we felt we could not award the trophies,’ said organiser John Heard. ‘This year we are publicising the team events and stress that they are open to all groups of 4 runners who must all complete the 5 miles, as well as schools.’

Altogether the Lions have 27 trophies and even more prizes for the winners of the numerous individual and team categories. Before the main run there are also 2 Mini Runs for the under 9’s where there will also be prizes for the first boy and girl. This year’s Fun Run will raise funds for the Parkinson’s UK, Teenage Cancer Trust and fly2help as well as local causes. The Lions are encouraging individuals as well as companies to enter now rather than leaving it until it’s too late.

‘We hope that runners will get their efforts sponsored and raise lots of funds for these worthy causes. The fact that over 1500 of the 2000 places have already been taken means that runners from all over the West Midlands are keen to reserve their place in what we hope will be another terrific record breaking family and community event,’ says organising Lion John Heard.
